Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for installing and maintaining fire extinguishers for the University of Virginia academic, student housing and medical divisions. Fire extinguishers are required to have maintenance assessments and reviews performed monthly and annually with evaluations that are more extensive every five, six, and twelve years depending on extinguisher types.
The FM maintenance Fire Protection team(s) and/or properly trained contract vendors perform the required assessments and testing of fire extinguishers. If you have any questions and/or notice issues with any fire extinguishers, please contact FM Customer service team(s) at 434.924.1777 for Academic Facilities and 434.924.2267 for Medical Center Facilities.
Never attempt to use a fire extinguisher if you are not trained or uncomfortable doing so. Always call 911 before attempting to use a fire extinguisher.
