Q1. What is Fall Protection?

Answer -- Fall Protection is a system that is designed to protect personnel from the risk of falls when working at elevated heights.

Q3. Who is responsible to provide Fall Protection to faculty, staff and/or students?

Answer -- UVA Managers and Supervisors have primary responsibility for providing safe working conditions including Fall Protection.

Q4. What steps should I take if I am responsible to provide Fall Protection to my faculty, staff and/or students?

Answer -- Follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Identify work tasks or activities that must be done at elevated heights.
  2. Select options that will protect employees and students from these fall hazards.
  3. Identify the employees and students that perform these work tasks and activities.
  4. Train these people to recognize the inherent fall hazards and how to implement the Fall Protection options selected by the department.
