Technological advances in laser design have created a plethora of applications in the medical field, leading to a significant rise in the number of patient care procedures carried out using lasers. Lasers can be found at the UVA Medical Center in the Main OR, Outpatient Surgery and several clinics.
Any laser used in the medical center for patient care is required to be registered with the Clinical Engineering Department PRIOR TO PURCHASE. See UVA Medical Center Laser Safety Policy No. 0188 for additional details.
To begin the registration process, a New Medical Device (NMD) Request form must be completed. Contact the UVA Medical Center Clinical Engineering Department for registration.
