Award Synopsis: Working closely with the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Charlottesville Fire Department, the University of Virginia has developed an exemplary community risk reduction program providing critical safety to students, faculty, staff and visitors. Implemented through Environmental Health & Safety, UVA’s fire and life safety program is one of the most outstanding and comprehensive programs in the country. It serves as a model for colleges and universities across the United States.[1]
